Tiger Eye Journalist Rescued From Kidnappers

by
Tiger Eye Journalist Rescued From Kidnappers

A member of Anas’ private investigation company Tiger Eye PI, has been rescued by police in the Northern Regional capital Tamale, after he was abducted Saturday morning.

Ishmael Hussein, who is now under the support of the Ghana Police Service, was rescued after news of his kidnap got to the Inspector General of Police, being the person of IGP Mohammed Alhassan.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the police have arrested one of the kidnappers with several of them on the run.

It is unclear what the motive for the failed kidnap could be, coming on the heels of the widespread corruption exposed in the judiciary by Anas and his team.

Police have however commenced investigations into the incident.

Ghana’s judiciary is currently under massive scrutiny as 22 lower court judges who were captured in Anas’ investigative video allegedly taking bribes, are being questioned after their suspension.

Some seven out of 12 High Court judges, who were also implicated, have been suspended by President John Mahama after the Chief Justice established a prima facie case against them.

Over 80 staff of the judicial service and staff of the police, prisons and the Attorney-General’s Department, were also captured on the video and are being investigated.

President Mahama and the Chief Justice, have served notice that anyone found culpable after investigations are completed would be prosecuted.

Bishop Obinim Endorses Fornication

by
Bishop Obinim Endorses Fornication

The founder and leader of the International Gods Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim has encouraged his congregation to always cherish giving birth outside marriage.

The controversial Bishop in a sermon to his congregation in one of his branches argued that God always blessed partnership between a man and a woman hence there was no need for two persons intending to marry to seek the consent of their parents.

To him, the fact that Adam (the first man ever created) and Eve (the first woman created) never performed any marriage rites to anyone indicate that God does not require the consent of parents before blessing a marriage.

“When you are presented with marriage and children, choose the children because you can never afford to have children, a man can live with a woman for some time and God would bless their union even without the consent of your parents".

“God blessed the union between Adam and Eve without Adam performing marriage rites to any family, He blessed the union directly and He would do same for you even with your parents being unaware…,” he argued.

The man of God therefore told his congregation that God always blessed marriages even without the consent of the family hence they should never break up their cohabitation relationships.

Methodist Bishop disagrees

This controversial doctrine of the Man of God, Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese of the Methodist Church, Rt Rev Stephen Bosomtwe Ayensu said were incorrect adding that Adam did not need to perform the marriage rites to anyone.

According to him, the fact that God allowed the two to give birth and form a family which from then on served as the basis of all marriage, tells that God approves of holy unions.

“If anyone preaches that Adam never performed a marriage rite before marrying Eve hence that should be repeated in this era, then that person is not teaching Godly messages, God in his own wisdom allowed the family to come exist to serve as witness of holy unions…..” he said

Govt Tasked To Protect Public Spaces

by
Govt Tasked To Protect Public Spaces

The UN Resident Coordinator, Christine Evans-Klock, has called on governments and urban authorities to ensure that public spaces are protected and well designed to help human movements and settlements.

Public spaces by definition include walk-ways, vehicle terminals, parks and gardens, sports and recreational grounds, open compounds and durbar grounds.

The resident coordinator made the call at a press briefing on the United Nations World Habitat Day held at the conference room of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in Accra.

The need to protect space has arisen as a result of the recent mad rush by developers to take over nearly all fallow spaces such as school compounds, parks, cemeteries, streets, walk-ways, recreational centres, among others, and rezoning them into high rise facilities or other infrastructure.

The theme for the month-long celebration is ‘Public Spaces for All’.

The United Nations has designated the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day to reflect on the state of towns and cities and on basic right of all to adequate shelter.

It is also intends to remind world citizens that all have the power and responsibility to shape the future of cities.

In Ghana, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development through its Urban Development Unit has further designated the month as ‘Urban October Month’.

During the ‘Urban Month October’, the ministry will raise awareness, promote participation and generate knowledge as well as engage the international community towards a new urban agenda.

The resident coordinator mentioned that a good public space for a city enhances community cohesion and promotes health, happiness and well-being for all citizens.

Ms Evans-Klock further mentioned that public space provides room for social and cultural interactions and has the potential to foster a sense of belonging and pride in an area, adding that the character of a city is defined by its streets and public space.

Chief Director of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, C.K Dondieu, who represented the minister, highlighted that with urbanisation, public spaces have become even more important to protect, maintain and increase in value to enhance the people’s quality of life.

The chief director indicated that the ministry and its partners through its technical teams have set the ball rolling on a new urban policy to help it build resilient cities which would eliminate related stresses and shocks.

FREE SHS Is Coming – Nana Assures

FREE SHS Is Coming – Nana Assures

NPP again as Nana Adoo assures "FREE SHS'' coming soon.

THE FLAGBEARER of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has pledged to roll out the original free Senior High School (SHS) education project if he wins political power in 2016.

Addressing residents of Kumasi in a radio interview, Nana Addo said the NPP has not abandoned the free SHS programme as the party is firmly committed to it.

“The free SHS project is a firm commitment of the NPP; it wasn’t a political tool to win votes. We need to develop our nation, and we will go back to the original project and implement it even though we acknowledge things are not the same as they were,” the NPP presidential candidate posited.

The Mahama-led NDC government has begun to roll out its ‘progressively free SHS programme’ after denigrating the idea during the 2012 electioneering campaign. Under the NDC government’s policy, government is paying GH¢38 for day students, leaving parents to pay GH¢380.

The ruling party had argued among other things that aside its sustainability, the programme would only seek to promote and produce half-baked students for the country at the expense of quality, only to change its stance and roll out its progressively free SHS policy on assuming power.

Political Gimmick

But the leader of the opposition NPP said the NDC only thought of the policy as a political tool to win votes, and not as a policy to develop the nation, intimating that the current programme is a deviation from the original one espoused by the NPP.

He asked the Ghanaian electorate to give him the mandate, pledging that he wouldn’t betray their trust. He assured that Ghanaians would find in him a trustworthy leader committed to transforming the country.

Nana Addo told listeners of Ashh Fm, as part of his ‘Rise and Build’ tour of the Ashanti Region, that he and the NPP remained committed  to addressing the wobbling economy, corruption in government and the current unemployment situation.

According to him, poor management of the economy has brought the country on its knees amidst instability of the nation’s currency and high taxing regime, which has shot up the cost of doing business.

The NPP flagbearer stated that he would run a just government to stabilise the cedi, review the tax regime downwards and invest in the private sector in order to promote the growth of the economy and create jobs and wealth for the citizenry.

In his view, the private sector remains the engineering growth of the economy – a philosophy which continues to be the core value of the NPP as a political party.

Ghana Can Rise Again

“I know things have gone bad in this country, but I know Ghana can rise again. And this is why I am offering myself to lead our country. You can trust me,” Nana Addo stated as he appealed for support for his presidential bid.

He called on residents of the Ashanti Region to continuously have faith in the NPP and vote for him in the 2016 elections, noting that the party has targeted to bag 80 percent of the Ashanti Region’s votes in order to guarantee a smooth victory.

“I am coming for your [Asanteman’s] development and the rest of Ghana. Vote for jobs, vote for growth and vote to build Ghana again. Continue to have faith in me and I will not disappoint you,” Nana Addo solemnly pledged.

He also promised to accord the welfare of security personnel, particularly the police, the needed attention to boost the morale of officers.

Nana Addo is expected to visit Adansi Asokwa, New Edubiase, Asante Akyem North, South and Central as well as Bosome Freho constituencies on day one.

The rest include Afigya-Kwabre North and South constituencies, Sekyere Afram Plains constituency, Kumawu, Ejisu, Juaben, Mampong, Ejura-Sekyeredumasi, Nsuta-Kwaman-Beposo and Kwabre East constituencies.

The second day of the Rise and Build tour will take Nana Addo to constituencies such as Adansi-Akrofuom, Obuasi East and West, Bekwai, Odotobiri, Manso Nkwanta, Manso Adubia, Atwima-Mponua, Atwima-Kwanwoma, Atwima – Nwabiagya North and South as well as Ahafo-Ano North, South-West and South East.

Anas Boys Ordered To Move To Accra

by
Team members of private investigative firm, Tigereye PI have been ordered by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Anas Aremeyaw Anas to relocate to Accra with immediate effect.
Adomonline.com sources close to the Investigative Journalist who is currently in Norway, said he issued the command after a member of the team, Ismail Hussein was kidnapped by persons believed to have been contracted by one of the judges implicated in the video on judicial corruption.

More than 50 team members of Tigereye PI are believed to be scattered across the ten regions of the country and their movement to Accra starts with immediate effect.

The movement is to help deal with the safety of the team members.
24 old year old Ishmael Hussein who was taken hostage by unknown persons has also been freed by the police.

It is not clear yet the motive for his seizure but there are fears it may be linked to the recent bribery scandal that has hit the judiciary.

Hussein was part of the crack team of undercover investigators whose audio-visual evidence has brought Ghana's judiciary under scrutiny.

About 34 judges from the high and lower courts, over 100 court clerks, state attorneys and personnel from the police service have been captured on camera allegedly taking bribes to subvert the course of justice.

Seven of the High court judges have been suspended after a prima facie case was
established against them.

Some 22 lower court judges have also been suspended pending the conclusion of hearings by a committee set up by the Chief Justice.

The legal processes have begun with Anas and his team of investigators submitting themselves to cross examination by the accused persons.

There are fears that the seizure of Ishmael Hussein could jeorpardize the process.

The Tamale police have therefore been alerted to investigate the matter.

Police Invites Sarkodie Over Stolen Car

by
Police Invites Sarkodie Over Stolen Car

Its Sarkodie in the house of Latest Ghana as police invites him over a stolen car.

Sarkodie

Award-winning rap artiste Sarkodie is helping the police with investigations into reports that he attempted to register an Infinity Saloon car which had been reported stolen and put on a surveillance list.

The musician was invited by the police in Accra on Wednesday but was granted bail after questioning.

Starr Fm, breaking the news, said Sarkodie went to the station with his lawyer and that investigations into the car theft were in full swing.

NEWS-ONE gathered that Sarkodie bought the unregistered and slightly used car from a car dealer without knowing that the vehicle was under surveillance and had been reported stolen.

The musician, after using the car for a while, attempted registering it at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

He did not know that the various DVLA offices in the country had been alerted to inform the police the moment an attempt was made by anyone to register the vehicle. Officials there consequently alerted the police and they took over the case immediately.

“We had information that Sarkodie was going to register a stolen car so we immediately followed it up and we invited him for questioning and he complied so as we speak, investigations are still ongoing into the matter,” Public Relations Officer of the Police, CID Joseph Benefo Darkwah, was quoted by Starr Fm to have confirmed the incident.

There had not been any official comment from Sarkodie and his team as at press time yesterday.
It is difficult for buyers of slightly used cars that have been imported into the country to detect at the point of sale whether the car is a stolen one or not, especially when it had already been allowed into the country, cleared from the port and most probably the requisite import taxes paid.

It is often at the point of registration to get a licensed number plate that such thefts are detected.

Judges In Chop Bar Jokes

by

Judges In Chop Bar Jokes

President John Dramani Mahama yesterday mentioned the ridiculing of judges following the bribery and corruption scandal that hit the judiciary recently in his speech at the inauguration of a $50-million court complex in Accra.

He said “the Anas video has provoked all kinds of salacious conversations and discussions both in private and in the media and our judges, regrettably, have become the bat of jokes in chop bars and restaurants.”

‘Judge’ is now a word in local eating joints otherwise called chop bars. It is now common to hear people who go to such places to eat replacing goat meat with judges in their orders.

Give me GH¢3 fufu and GH¢6 judge (for goat meat) is now the common joke in chop bars, as a result of some judges demanding goats in the Anas video.

The president’s comments come on the heels of the release of a 500-hour video by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas depicting 34 judges and magistrates, over 100 court clerks, seven policemen, five state attorneys and bail contractors taking bribes to pervert justice.

The video also captured a court clerk in a sexual act for same reason.
The bribery scandal, the president said, would have adverse effects on the various arms of government and other key institutions.

“This menace affects all segments of our society—the executive, the legislature, the media, the judiciary, traditional rulers, health facilities and indeed the list is endless…”

The president said he was saddened by the scandal but stressed that he was also particularly elated about the decision by some judges who stood their ground and rejected the offers from their clients.
Thirty-four judges allegedly took bribes in cash and kind.

Most of them have been suspended pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.

Optimism

Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood was optimistic that the service would overcome the incident and regain its integrity.
She said the judiciary, as an institution, stood at a threshold of a new dawn and asked Ghanaians to take respite from the negativities of the past weeks and join hands with them in restoring and rebuilding the judiciary.

Selfish Desires

“When you find yourself as an adversary in court, resist the temptation to find someone who knows the judge in order that you may obtain favour,” Justice Wood advised.
According to her, “The judiciary is poised to stand, thrive and overcome the present scourge imposed on us by the events of the past…We cannot allow the selfish desires of the minority in our midst to undo our efforts and expectations.”
The CJ noted that the new building signified an opportunity for a new beginning and urged all to resolve to build a judicial system that assured litigants and countrymen of justice and justified the fact that “indeed those who uphold the cause of justice are more than those who pervert it.”

Stop-gap Judges

She said that as part of the shortfalls in the system due to the scandal, 15 Appeal Court judges would be tasked to sit as additional High Court judges.
This, according to the CJ, was part of measures being put in place to ensure that the courts of the implicated judges run normally.

Call for Review

The CJ hinted that the judicial service would also review the criteria for the selection of judges with a focus that “will reflect the desire to improve on the behavioural aspects of judges.”
The focus, she explained, was going to be more on the moral and ethical values in the appointment of judges.
The CJ contended that the gesture would ensure that a judge’s behaviour remained consistent with his or her calling and the relationship with his or her community of workers and service recipients.

The New Court Complex

The court complex is located on the defunct Victoriaborg Press, close to the Cocoa Affairs Courts in Accra.
Four years ago, former President J.E.A. Mills cut the sod for the construction of the complex to replace the dilapidated 24th February Cross Road Courts, popularly known as the Cocoa Affairs Courts.
The construction, which is the first since 1940 for the judiciary, was funded by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
The ultra-modern court complex is made up of 10 land courts, 10 commercial courts, six criminal courts, six general jurisdiction courts, three divorce and matrimonial courts, two financial and economic courts, two human rights courts, two labour courts and a Probate and Administration court.
The court complex also has banking facilities, cafeteria, 300-seater auditorium, library, a business centre, media briefing room, executive offices for the Attorney General and police prosecutor as well as a data centre, among others.
There is also a basement which has a holding cell and car parks for the public and judges.
China State Hualong Construction Limited constructed the building.

Mahama's Stance On New Voter Register Most Appropriate-Pratt

by

Mahama's Stance On New Voter Register Most Appropriate-Pratt.

Managing news Editor of the Insight Newspaper says President John Maham’s stance on the creation of a new voters register is unquestionable.
According to Kwesi Pratt, President Mahama does not have any other choice because the decision to, or not to create a new voters' register lies solely in the hands of the Electoral Commission (EC) and not even he, the president can influence it.

Speaking on Radio Gold’s news analysis programme, ‘Alhaji and Alhaji’, Mr Pratt said the President would be violating the constitution if “he does anything he is not supposed to do”.
The New Patriotic Party is calling for the creation of a new voters’ register after it made claims that more than 70,000 names in Ghana’s electoral roll were foreigners.
The NPP believes that the creation of a new register will make the 2016 general elections a more credible one.

Pressure group Let My Vote Count Alliance has also staged a demonstration to demand the creation of a new register.
Although other political parties have agreed for the creation of a new register, some doubt if it will change anything.
General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Bernard Mornah said the existing voters register should rather be “cleansed”.

President Mahama in an interview with journalists in France called on those demanding the creation of a new register to state their case and give the EC the space to make its own decision on the matter.
He said "I have no right to interfere in that list. Ghana has an Electoral Commissioner that is independent and does not consult the president to do anything.
"It is a relatively young register because we have only used it for only one election and it was a register that has been biometrically compiled… It is for the EC to decide what to do”, he said.
Some critics have condemned portions of the president's remarks which suggested that the register was a new one and had to be improved not changed.
Mr Pratt said the critics are wrong.

“What is wrong with what the president said…the constitution says that that decision ought to be made by the electoral commission and that is what the president said…or do we want the constitution to be violated”, he queried.
He said the NPP should not expect that a new register will be created simply because they think that is the right way to go.
“it seems to me that what they want simply is for all of us to shut up and accept what they are proposing without questions even if what they are proposing does not make sense.

“How can you run any country or institution like this where one segment of the society – even if they are in majority – that when they speak no one else has the right to speak, when they come to conclusions we should all follow them like sheep. They say they want a new voters register so everybody shut up let’s go and get a new voters register”, he said.
He called on the general public to allow the EC room to take a decision on whether or not it is necessary to create a new register.

Is Anas Aremeyaw Anas A National Hero Or A Liability?

by
You are welcome as I bring to you on the popular and most known ever secrete journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

I must say from the word go that Anas Aremeyaw Anas is the best thing that has happened to Ghana for a very long time. His latest heroic sting of the judiciary has taken the country by storm, and it is making a lot of very important people extremely uncomfortable, especially those at the seat of government, because they are next in line. I am patiently keeping my fingers crossed for an explosion, which will turn out to be their Waterloo. The fact is corruption in Ghana is not just a matter of few apples in the barrel; it is the whole container that is rotten. And if that is not fixed, no amount of managerial skills and economic acumen can save the country.

I have been enjoying myself ever since the story broke. Though some prominent people have been making a fool of themselves with their childish comments, you just have to know who is talking to brush them aside. The fact is those who have been caught in this mess are not going to keep their mouth shut – they will go down fighting to the bitter end, even if they have to grab unto straws to catch their last breathe. Besides, those who stand to benefit, if they beat the rap, will scrape the bottom of the barrel to come up with some legalistic hogwash to discredit Anas.

Somewhere last week I read a comment on ghanaweb in which someone was suggesting that Anas is disgracing the country for exposing the judges caught on tape. I was livid beyond words; I had to take time out to calm down my nerves. When I later recovered my composure I consoled myself that it is the comments of a dimwit who is so much concerned with appearances. I, therefore, dropped it altogether to continue enjoying the Anas drama.

However, Bright Akwetey, a private legal practitioner, was fixated on interrupting my amusement. About three days ago he made a statement, which is a classic case of looking at just one side of the argument. The following is the link to his wretched thoughts: http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/Order-Anas-to-arrest-freed-criminals-Lawyer-383890.

He argued that it is greater evil for Anas to have used tactics that let off tough criminals into the community. He further claimed that some of these criminals are armed robbers who will continue to rob and kill people. Of course, Mr Akwetey is right; on the other hand, did Mr Akwetey think about the ultimate consequence of not being able to cure this virulent cancer, which has been metastasising since independence. I hate to point it out; death is the grand finale, failed state is the inevitable denouement, and this cannot be compared to Anas tactics in any stretch of the imagination.
Corruption is just like a cancer, and to destroy it some healthy cells will undoubtedly be affected. It is very childish for a smart person like Mr Bright Akwetey to make that submission. Corruption is killing Ghana slowly, and as far as I am concerned, Anas tactics are small potatoes that shouldn’t be questioned by any Ghanaian with the interest of the nation at heart. When people are dying in their numbers for lack of food, good drinking water, lack of medical care, poor sanitation, unemployment etc. due to the activities of these nation wreckers, and he has the incredible temerity to argue that the armed robbers who were let loose will kill people. What about the thousands that is going to be saved because of his work. I am not even touching the economic benefits this will bring. Think, Mr Bright Akwetey, you sound childish and ridiculous.
For those who think that Anas is washing our dirty linen in public, I believe should look themselves again in the mirror. Ghana is destitute; what is there to show off. We are living on past glories that have become stale.

Let us come to the 21st century. There are worst things that are being exposed in better countries and they don’t make noise about it. Currently, there is an ongoing investigation that involved former Westminster MPs and ministers who were involved in a paedophile ring that abused children for years. This is the mother of all parliaments, and these things happened about 30 years ago, but they still have the need to expose it in order to prevent it from happening again. There is an Akan saying that when you don’t sell your sickness you will not have a cure. Ghana is sick; we can only have a cure when we expose it. They say sunshine is the best disinfectant. Anybody who is against what Anas has done or doing has got something to hide. My unadulterated conviction is that he is an enemy of mother Ghana. Anas Aremeyaw Anas may have his faults as a human being, but currently he is the best thing that has happened to Ghana in a very long time. The incalculable benefit he has brought us far outweighs the liabilities. Those who can’t deal with it should just zip up.

Highlife musician, Daddy Lumba has teamed up with Gospel artiste, Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong to record four gospel albums.
This was disclosed by record producer, Buddy Roro on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch on Tuesday.

Lumba who just turned fifty-one has already released a collaboration with Great Ampong titled, Hossana. The song on which they sang praises to God for His mercies was produced by Roro.

He told show host, Abrantepa that the collaboration which was Lumba’s idea is a long term project.
“We started working together about a year ago. By God’s grace, this [Hosanna] is out already but we have recorded four gospel albums. It’s a collaboration between Lumba and Ampong. It’s a long term project. However, they can release their individual albums along the way. By December, Lumba’s highlife album will be out,” Roro said.

When asked the motive behind the project, Roro said: “that’s why we tag Lumba as the best of all time. Lumba has helped the likes of Borax and Ofori Amponsah in the music industry. He is a good songwriter and can identify talents easily. And that is why he collaborated with Great Ampong. So let’s say God is taken us to another level through him. He is the brain behind the long term project."
Roro revealed that every song on each of the four albums would have at least ten songs.
Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known in showbiz circles as Daddy Lumba will on Saturday, October 3 2015 launch the Hosanna single at the National Theatre. The event is also to celebrate his 51st anniversary.
